In addition to sociological theory, sociological classics and the history of sociology, Werner Gephart focuses on issues relating to the sociology of art and culture, the sociology of literature and media, the sociology of religion and, in particular, the sociology of law. He is co-editor of the journals Droit et Société, Law and Literature, and Law and the Arts, as well as editor of the volume ‘Law’ in the historical-critical complete edition of Max Weber's works. In addition to Max Weber, he pays particular attention to the work of French sociologist Emile Durkheim. For several decades, Werner Gephart has also been intensively engaged in the sociological analysis of legal cultures. Werner Gephart's main areas of research are also reflected in his artistic work. His paintings, collages and installations illustrate the history of the social sciences and their relationship to the underlying legal cultures.
